Governor Samuel Ortom has assured Mbatoho Island community who were chased away by invading Fulani herdsmen that everything was being done to ensure their early return.

He gave the assurance today at the Benue Peoples House Makurdi while addressing the displaced persons who visited him to explain their predicament.

The Governor noted that the issue was discussed extensively during today’s State Executive Council meeting and actions were being taken to ensure that the invaders were chased out for the real inhabitants to return home.

He stated that he was pained by the plight of the people and would do everything possible under the law to stop the invasion of the land.

While directing the Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency to provide relief materials to the over five thousand displaced persons taking refuge in unofficial camps, the Governor lamented that this was not the Nigeria the people desired for.

He said everybody who wanted to rear livestock in the state would be allowed to do so but must obey the laws of the land.

One of the leaders of the community, Mr. Ortaver Sylvanus, said the herdsmen invaded their community over two weeks ago and forced them to vacate without any provocation.

He appealed to the state government to act fast to ensure their early return, stressing that they were taking refuge with relations because the official camps were filled.
