The Flying Antelopes failed to lift their performance against their visitors for much part of the game and hardly created many scoring opportunities. Lobi Stars began the game with the real prospect of making amends for points dropped at home in the opening day fixture against Enyimba and quickly settled into the game.
Samad Kadiri opened the scoring for Lobi Stars inside the first 15 minutes of the game after capitalizing on a mixup in Rangers’ defence.
Ayo Saka later rose high enough to nod home the second for the Pride of Benue in the 72nd minute off a Solomon Kwambe’s corner.
Chiamaka Madu got what eventually became a consolation goal for Rangers in the 84th minute, scoring from the spot after Anthony Agbaji upended Tayo Fabiyi in the box.
Mannir Ubale almost double the lead for Lobi four minutes afterward but his shot on goal was well gathered by Femi Thomas.
That paid off for them in the 12th minute when they attacked in numbers. Samad put home the ball from close range after Semiu Liadi and Shedrack Francis failed to clear their line.
Lobi had their stars shining brightly for the most part of first half and they could have got more goals but Ayo Saka and Samad failed to convert the chances.
