Enugu State Government has ordered immediate ban of Bet9ja in the state accusing the platform of illegalities.
Confirming the Enugu State Government’s ‘immediate ban of Bet9ja operations in the State’, the Chairman, Enugu State Gaming Commission (ESGC), Harrison Ogara, said that it was brought to the notice of the government that the gambling outfit has been illegally operating in the state.
“They have been cheating customers and denying the state of taxes and fees required of gaming operators.
“By this order, all Bet9ja outlets throughout the state have been closed with immediate effect. “Anyone caught doing business in those outlets shall be arrested and prosecuted,”
When contacted, the Legal Adviser to Bet9ja, Chuks Emele, confirmed the report, but adding that the
“Whole issue is all about paying the significantly high renewal fees without any prior notice.
“Today when I got the information about the threat of the ban by the gaming authority I have been in touch with the Chairman of the state Gaming Authority Mr Harrison Ogara and expressed our desire to dialogue and settle the huge renewal fees from N1.3m to N7.9m to an amount that is reasonable and acceptable.
“The increase was done without any prior notice and we told them we are ready to apply judicial review of their actions to force them to come to settlement.
