FC Ifeanyi Ubah on sunday secured its first point on the road this season after they were forced to a scored draw by host Rivers United at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Tactician Ladan Bosso retained a large chunk of his starting 11 in last weekend’s home win against Nasarawa United with two changes made to the side as Sadiq Abdulrazak came in for Ikeokwu Patrick while Ebuka Nwenyi made his first appearance of the season coming in for Adeboye Gabriel thereby paving way for Faruq Umar to play in a wide role and attacking position.

Nwenyi’s appearance was a remarkable feat as the lad who came through the ranks of the club’s feeder team featured in the NPFL-LA LIGA Gauteng U17 Invitational held in South Africa recently.

The first twenty minutes of the encounter was quite cagey and chances were few and far save for some nervy moments in the early exchanges as Awazie Ekene got into the high line of Goalkeeper Sunday Rotimi from a Seka Pascal’s through ball which eluded everyone in the box in the fourth minute of the game. Ebuka Nwenyi was in the thick of the action as he made an off the line clearance from a corner kick effort which was poorly judged by Goalkeeper Drissa Bamba.

The second period started in similar fashion as the first in a frenetic manner, Wasiu Jimoh had to make a timely clearance in the 50th minute to scuttle a brilliant attacking move by the host as Goalkeeper Bamba Drissa in the 55th minute denied his name sake Bakary Bamba who waltz through the defensive line to get on to Chikere’s pass in the box.

The much anticipated moment in the game came in the 60th minute in form of a hullabaloo from Goalkeeper Rotimi Sunday who got his matching orders for a foul on Seka Pascal with the referee having no choice but to point to the spot. Chidume Onyedikachi sent substitute Goalkeeper Cole Robert the wrong way to give the Anambra Warriors a well deserved lead in the 66th minute for what promised to be a nervy end to the game.

The numerical advantage nearly paid off save for captain Festus Austine who harked down Daberechi Anyanwu through on goal with a swift counter attacking move. In the 80th minute parity was restored as regards the playing personnel after Sadiq Abdulrazak was served his matching orders for a second bookable offence. The host would respond to the situation some five minutes after with an Oche Salefu’s belter of a goal with the Warriors holding on to secure a valuable and precious point. Next up for the the Anambra Warriors is an oriental derby clash come next sunday against Abia Warriors.
