FC Ifeanyi Ubah on Saturday ended the 2016-17 Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) campaign at the fortress of the FC Ifeanyi Ubah International Stadium Nnewi with a 1-1 draw scoreline against Makurdi based side Lobi Stars.

Coach Yaw Preko made sweeping changes to the side that lost in Ijebu Ode last weekend against Sunshine Stars as Traore Sory and Msonter Tony retained their places in the starting 11.

The Ortom Boys against the run of play took the lead from Okpotu Anthony in the 24th minute from a scramble in the box and poor communication between the Anambra Warriors make shift back four as he rounded Goalkeeper Traore Sory to finish off the chance.

The Anambra Warriors had to wait till the 70th minute as substitute Ayorinde Samuel got his first goal of the campaign as he rose highest to nod in a cross from Godwin Obaje beyond the reach of Goalkeeper Lawrence John who made many saves in the encounter to frustrate the creative work of the Warriors.

With the result, FC Ifeanyi Ubah ended the season finishing 9th on the log with 54 points garnered in 38 matches played and will now focus on Wednesday’s clash with Heartland in the aiteo cup competition.

Reacting to the result, Coach Yaw Preko said the season was quite an entertaining season and another huge experience for him.

“Its been a long season for us after 38 matches played. It’s been a season of ups and downs based on some factors. I wanted to end the season on a high, we wanted to be in the top 3 but couldn’t achieve that. The good thing is that we played this season unbeaten at home which says a lot about our commitment and hard work. You could recall we started the second half of this season on high note with a 3-0 win recorded against Shooting Stars away from home but we didn’t cash in on that as consistency was our problem. Surely another season will come and all we have to do before then is to go back to the drawing board, look at where we did not get it right and correct it. We are still in the Aiteo Cup and we have a big Oriental Derby clash against Heartland on Wednesday and we need to now focus immediately on that game,” Preko said.
