After a keenly contested and successful primary elections conducted by PDP in Ekiti state, the Deputy Governor of Ekiti state, Prof. Kolapo Olusola has emerged the winner and the flag bearer of the party for the forthcoming July 14, gubernatorial elections.

Prof. Kolapo Olusola was able to clinch a total of 1191 out of the total 1961 votes cast by PDP delegates during the just concluded Primary held today at  Ado- Ekiti while his counterpart, Prince Adedayo Adeyeye had 771 votes.

The primary had two aspirants, the Deputy Governor of Ekiti state, Prof. Kolapo Olusola and a former Minister of Works Prince Adedayo Adedeye joggling for the winning spot. This is however against the initial total of 3 aspirants the party had which became 2 after another aspirant, Senator Abiodun Olujumi stepped down from the race.

According to the Primary Electoral Committee chairman who is also the Governor of Delta state, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, a total of 2086 delegates were expected to take part in the primary but only 1968 were accredited while 198 delegates were disqualified.

However votes cast was said to be 1961 as 7 votes were rendered null and void.

The one time Senator appreciated the efforts of the Governor of Ekiti state, Dr. Ayodele Fayose for providing a level playing ground for all major stakeholders  who also maintained a principled conduct and co-operation even in the pressured environment of the Primary.

The party’s delegates constituted the Current Governor of Ekiti state, Dr. Peter Ayodele Fayose, the two aspirants, Party’s state Executives, serving and former principal members of the state House of Assembly, LGA Chairmen and Vice Chairmen.

Dr. Fayose expressed his satisfaction at the success of the event and urged party members to to remain steadfast in unity as the opposition had a whole lot to learn from PDP.

Speaking during the event  Prof. Kolapo Olusola commended Senator Okowa for the exemplary leadership he exhibited during the primary and noted that the process was ” of standard, fair and very transparent”

”Every hand must be on deck to continue the industrial  works of our amiable Governor through a workable strategy which is meant to ensure that the continuity agenda is made a reality. I assure my people of a transparent, people first government. Together we will achieve victory because  I am ready incontrovertibly ready to accept the responsibility given to me by this great party”. He said.
